    This film was shot on the north shore of Cuba looking towards the Gulf of Mexico, just months before 4.9 million barrels of oil was spilled by Deepwater Horizon between April 20-July 15, 2010.   • 350 MYA

    In Terra Long’s 350 MYA, a sheet whips before the camera, shaped by the same wind that forms the rigid, undulating lines of sand below it as the film conjures the continued presence of the now-vanished Rheic Ocean in the Tafilalet region of the arid Sahara Desert.

  • Ants on a Log

    A look at the popular children’s novelty snack (celery, Cheeze Whiz, raisins) as it is swarmed by real ants on an actual log. The piece aims to stimulate discourse on human objectification of nature and ecological hierarchy. Though humans may be able to create triumphant scientific accomplishments like Cheez Whiz, the ants’ ability to organize and colonize will long out live that of the humanity. This film can be screened also be screened as 16mm loop.

    Mystic animalistic forces spark a mass exodus before the planet implodes. Made for an invitation to take part in a weekly pakete* in Cuba – curated by Peter Kingstone & Nestor Siré. *The weekly pakete is terabyte of information that can be downloaded onto a drive – mostly of stolen material from the internet, movies, tv shows, sporting events, music and youtube clips – available all over Cuba.

    A woman with a tortured past is triggered to take an unexpected walk down memory lane, she finds herself face-to- face with her inner child. Giving her a chance to make peace with her past. Does she find a way to celebrate darkness or does she become engulfed forever by it? In 2015, Jaene turned 40. This lead her to become introspective about her unusual life history.   • Somnium Lapidum (Dream Stones)

    This stop-motion 16mm film offers an audiovisual meditation on the material animation of stones. The concept is inspired by Camillo Leonardi’s “Speculum Lapidum”, published in 1533, which describes the magical healing virtues of a variety of stones, categorized by colour. The character-based animated vignettes are inspired by the woodcuts in “De Hortus Sanitatis”, a natural history encyclopedia published in 1485, which details various methods of harnessing the power of gems.   • Experiments In Light

    This short explores light as a meditative state while encouraging the viewer to take a moment to be present within themselves. Taking footage from my narrative self portrait A Celebration of Darkness (2015) and recutting it to refocus on the various macro shots of crystals as an expansion on the theme of light and darkness.
