  • Mont Real

    “Mont Real” is a satirical view of our western civilization combining aspects of traditional and everyday life in North America. The film deals with our overpowering fantasies and with our enslavement as dependent consumers in a materialistic society. The extremely rapid development of the various visual aspects of the film corresponds with today’s hasty and short-lived deluge of information and stimulation. The film is also meant to counteract the widespread fear of foreign languages and cultures, a fear which seems to be quite common in Canada as well as in many other parts of the world.

  • Pepere’s Chairs

    The story of Pepere’s Chairs was conceived by my mother, visual artist Maryse Maynard. It is a playful tale about a group of chairs that once belonged to her ancestors. Once the film had been recorded and edited, it was projected onto hand-embroidered canvases which served as the screen. Maryse had embroidered the canvases with chairs, and every once in a while, an embroidered chair could be glimpsed floating in the background of the film.

    Life is hard when you live on Gerrard … especially when you’re a white French-Canadian rapper trying to make it on the streets of Toronto. “Busk” is a fish-out-of-water comedy about a guy with a dream who doesn’t give up even when his whole ‘hood is against him. “Busk” is based on a skit performed by the comedy troupe Sweet Potato. Eric Marier acted out his nerdy white rapper character for filmmaker Paula Tiberius over wine one evening, and she wrote the script the next day.
