  • On The Department Of Experiential Medicine II

    Initially an anti-gay marriage performance in a veil, speedo and heels reciting the Litanies of Satan, singing a Galasian Amazing Grace and then upending a bottle of champagne into my prelubed anus where the pressure pushed its contents inside. I then evacuate into two glasses and toast with someone from the audience. It then changed into a DIY AIDS-meds Cocktail performance with me dressed as a nurse, juicing beets and pushing vitamin supplements into my anus before taking the champagne. I then evacuate it into glasses with the beet juice and toast the audience with these cocktails.

  • How Long?

    A strange series of events have propelled the world into an uncertain, looming future. A young woman wakes to find her partner pacing in the rain, wracked with anxiety over an unidentified yet seemingly inevitable disaster. She tries to comfort her partner amid her own escalating fear — and a cataclysmic change may be closer than either of them had imagined.

  • Sick

    “Sick” is the second video in the “Misadventures of Pussy Boy” trans trilogy, produced in 2003. Alick is verbally and physically queer bashed at school, Kay shares with our anti-hero the power of reclaiming hurtful words like “sick”. Our protagonists find safety, comfort and acceptance in each other’s arms.

    “First Period”, the third video in the “Misadventures of Pussy Boy” trilogy, the title is a double entendre for the first period of school and Alick’s first menstrual cycle, a shocking event that sends our intersexed youth into an emotional tailspin. Alick is worried about how Kay will react, will she have anything to do with this “?”. Their burgeoning secret relationship is threatened by Kay’s friendship with Ray, the high school bad boy.   • Audrey’s Beard

    “Audrey’s Beard” was shot on my beloved Bolex camera. The film was conceived as a time-lapse documentary film experiment with shots of this once butch dyke filmmaker’s beard growing in over a 21-day period in the early 1990’s. At the time it felt like it was a very transgressive act as an artist, transitioning gender, to grow the beard I had felt ashamed of for so many years, using my body to tell a story, coming to terms with the shame of being born Intersex in a creative and empowering way.   • Nadia’s Songs

    “Nadia’s Songs” follows a teenage boy who finds a collection of CDs that used to belong to a stranger known only as Nadia. In their shared taste in music he imagines her life story while in turn reflecting on his own. One part essay and one part love letter to second-hand music shops, “Nadia’s Songs” explores the many ways we can forge our identities through the art we consume and things we collect as young adults.

  • On the Rocks

    The filmmaker puts the spotlight on her husband, a recovering alcoholic, to learn and understand his thought process as an addict. She also reflects on her own struggles dealing with the alcoholism and its effect on their marriage.

  • The Island

    A garden between Oakland and Berkley where its inhabitants, marginalized by gentrification, plant fruit trees and flowers to pay homage to their loved ones who died in battles against poverty. This is a space of love and freedom cared by Brian for the last 25 years. The island resists, as a living legacy of the Black Panthers who were the first to organize the neighbourhood.

  • Vanilla

    Vanilla takes you through the everyday ordinary life of a disabled senior citizen living in Ottawa, Canada. It is a portrait documenting aging and the loneliness of those suffering in silence. The black and white film was shot on 16mm Bolex film camera using a KODAK 7222 Double-X Negative film. Processed by Niagara Film Lab (Toronto). Created as part of Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa (IFCO) – Dogme Production Challenge.
