I made a microphone. I asked for a friend’s help to shoot. I asked for a friend to provide a condom. I asked for a film lab that would process the film for me. (the lab tends to ruin my films) I wrap the microphone in the condom, tell my friend to start shooting, and try to swallow what I’ve made.

Beauty Must Suffer
“Beauty Must Suffer” is an homage both to J.K. Huysmans’ novel, “Against The Grain,” and to the personal experience of a weekend spent with Andy Mantegna, a porn star whose rise was just as quick as his descent and subsequent death. The film attempts to approximate the hazy memory of that debaucherous weekend in 1994 among the garish grandeur of an old Victorian flat saturated in baroque décor. The setting’s opulence could not have contrasted more with my larger life context at the time, I was living in a van, with just a backpack full of belongings, including Huysmans’ novel.…

Kiss
An experimental reinterpretation of Andy Warhol’s 1963 silent short film of the same name, “Kiss” recontextualizes his protest against the Hays Code’s time restriction of onscreen kissing as an impassioned indictment of laws that prohibit and punish homosexuality in certain countries. Featuring a cast of performers hailing from countries where these laws exist transforming an expression of love and desire into a political protest, “Kiss” artfully challenges and resists the sanctioned condemnation and persecution LGBTQ persons confront. Selected screenings: Sicilia Queer Film Festival (2012); Schwule Filmwoche Freiburg – Freiburg International Gay Film Festival (2012); Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film and…

Fresnel
“Fresnel” is a short super-8 film that explores the optical effects created by the massive inverted fresnel lens at the centre of the Reichstag dome. The Reichstag’s fresnel lens works exactly like a typical light-house fresnel lens – but in reverse, magnifying and projecting the sun’s light down into the Bundestag chambers (the national parliament of German). Fresnel lenses reduce the amount of material required to project light compared to a conventional plano-convex lens of equivalent power, by dividing the lens into concentric prisms, which magnify the light. Following the ramp upwards, the camera’s lens captures splintered reflections of people…

Dynamique de la pénombre (Half light dynamics)
An encounter in dark places, movements in chiaroscuro and the breath of a rising wind illuminate the darkness of the frame. An intimate dynamic is setting up. It will bring out, in all its magnitude, the light of day. “Half light dynamics” captures the nuances of an encounter, the apprehensions and desires that are forged in the depth and darkness of the frame. Glimpsed movements and possible outbursts offer to the eye and ear all the dynamism of an emerging world. Focusing on details of the gestures and on the presence of the body crossing the darkness, “Half light dynamics”…

Transits of Venus, The
The two films, the first black and white, the second in color, record the sky when Venus passed across the Sun on June 6th, 2004 and June 6th 2012. Transits of Venus occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits 8 years apart, separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years. Each shot is contextualized with data detailing the various technical parameters that determine the peculiarity of the image. This data is an integral part of the work.
