    “Blue” serves as the filmmaker’s exploration of the sights, sounds, form, and function of the historical Johnson Street Bridge in Victoria, BC. Built in 1924 as a bascule-style drawbridge, designed by the same company that would later build the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, “Big Blue” is currently at a politically controversial crossroads. After sitting for years in dire need of seismic upgrades and maintenance, Victoria city council pressed forth with an expensive plan for demolition and replacement.   • City Under Siege

    “City Under Siege” examines contemporary representation of war in the media. The particular image under investigation first became predominant in the broadcast news media during the Gulf War. It is of a wide, high angle shot, recorded at night from the roof of a building looking out over a city, usually Baghdad. The shot stays static while the city below is bombarded in a fire show. There does not appear to be any life represented down there, no blood or exploded body parts. There doesn’t even seem to be a camera operator as the image never moves or reacts to…

  • Overcome

    Porn star, Ryan Russell is rotoscoped in this performance about ego and Eros. In the tradition of the peepshow a private sexual performance is made public. A lone figure enters the frame, smirks at the camera and gets down to business. Is he simply there to entertain himself or is this a performance for the viewer? It eventually goes terribly wrong when he quite literally drowns in his own ego. “Overcome” is a looped installation, but it is also available as a 1.47 minute piece.     The “Manholes” series takes a pan of a single male figure and fragments it into a grid of peepholes. The microscopic mapping of the body is intimate yet clinical. The cascading body parts create a kaleidoscope of changing skin tones. It is difficult to find the point of origin on the subject’s body, though occasionally signifiers make it possible; an eye, a nipple or the toes suddenly orient the viewer.     In “Milkman”, a seated male figure sits staring endlessly ahead, his gaze locked on the viewer. Milk is streaming from his nipple and into a glass that he holds in his left hand. The continuous flow of milk never seems to fill the glass. The sound of the flowing milk creates a human fountain out of this portrait. In “Milk Bath” a man’s face sits like an island in the middle of a pool of milk. His facial hair slowly grows then disappears, the left side independent of the right.
